APPLICATION GUIDELINES

We receive many requests for funding and believe that these guidelines will help you understand what type of information we are seeking and why, so that the project application process is efficient for both our organizations.  If you have questions, please review the FAQs section of our website.  If your questions still have not been addressed, please email Linda Fitzgerald, Program Director, at: lfitzgerald@peruopportunity.org. 

 

Eligibility

Project Criteria:

Applicants should understand that Peru Opportunity Fund looks for the following criteria when evaluating potential project profiles and proposals submitted for funding:

  • Efficient and professional management;
  • Low administrative costs;
  • Transparent and sound budgeting processes;
  • Audited and sound financial statements;
  • Outcome and results-oriented;
  • Measureable results;
  • Subtantial beneficiary engagement in:
    • identification of the problem addressed,
    • approach chosen to solve it
    • design of the project
    • management and evaluation of activities
  • Long-term sustainability of the project;
  • Counterpart contributions from the private and public sector, the beneficiaries and other sources;
  • Potential to generate learning;
  • Potential for strengthening all participating organizations and their partnerships;
  • Partnerships with local government, the business community and other civil society organizations

The following are considered INELIGIBLE for funding by Peru Opportunity Fund:

  • Annual campaigns;
  • Building or endowment funds;
  • Colleges/Universities;
  • Emergency requests;
  • Proposals from individuals;
  • Proposals associated with political parties or partisan movements;
  • Proposals from groups that do not contribute financial or in-kind resources to the proposed activity;
  • Proposals directed by entities outside Peru;
  • Proposals directed by government entities. 

Organization Criteria:

Peru Opportunity Fund will only consider funding organizations with the following legal status:

  • 501(c)3 tax status or a foreign not-for-profit equal to a 501(c)3 as determined via equivalency determination;
  • A fiscal sponsor;
  • An organization with adequate financial, legal and project information to perform IRS-mandated expenditure responsibility.

 

We only review:  A project application that is well defined and thoroughly researched.  This implies that there has been significant feasibility and baseline analysis conducted, the majority of funding has been secured or commitments for funding are in the process of being negotiated, and a preliminary budget outlining specific costs is available for review. 

Since 2001 POF grants and loans have ranged from $20,000 - $1,000,000.  Grants for multi-year support will be considered after a successful first year of funding.  Operational expenses associated with a project will be considered for funding.
